Sun, events and health: a balance we must protect

For events, fairs, markets, catering, outdoor setups or construction sites, prolonged exposure to UV radiation can cause discomfort, skin damage and even more serious health problems. Ultraviolet radiation is also harmful to food, drink and any merchandise on display. In more serious cases, if reflected on highly flammable surfaces, these rays can even start fires.

The difference between UPF and SPF

SPF (Sun Protection Factor) is a term used for cosmetics and sun creams. UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) refers to the UV protection provided by fabrics, including those used for clothing and outdoor covers. A fabric with UPF 50+ allows less than 2% of UV radiation to pass through.

Certified quality: the test results say it all

DIN EN 13758-1 certification: what is it, and why does it matter?

The DIN EN 13758-1 standard defines a method for evaluating the UV protection of fabrics. Mastertent fabrics tested according to the applicable standard achieved UPF 50+ results, with the corresponding test results documented.

Independent institutes and laboratory testing for UV protection

Laboratory tests were conducted by Textilforschungsinstitut Thüringen Vogtland e.V., an independent German institute accredited by Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle (DAkkS). Additional tests conducted by TÜV document the performance of the tested materials.

UPF 50+ UV resistance certification: understanding the results

Mastertent fabrics have achieved UPF values of 786 and 9301, significantly higher than 50. These results document a high level of UV protection for the tested fabrics.

The Enervit example

The roof of a Mastertent pop-up gazebo provides UV protection across the fabric-covered area. To increase protection from UV radiation entering from the sides, sidewalls with documented UV-protection properties can be used.

Enervit, for example, uses sidewalls to reduce direct exposure to sunlight for supplements and protein bars during events. The sidewalls allow the gazebo to be fully enclosed, helping to shield products and staff from direct sunlight.
